Description / Position Overview

Equipment Operator II - Pavement Operations

About the Job: The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Equipment Operator II to their Public Works Maintenance Operations division! As an Equipment Operator for this team, you will perform construction, maintenance, and repair tasks for the pavement operations team. This includes operating heavy equipment such as asphalt rollers, pavers, and skid steers to repair streets, sidewalks, and alleys. This team is also responsible for ensuring job site safety, conducting equipment inspections, and assisting with project planning and coordination

Work Schedule: 6:30AM - 5:00PM. Either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday depending on crew assignment after hire. This position requires that you are available for emergency callouts.

As an Equipment Operator II, you will:

  • Operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations
  • Transport material and equipment to and from maintenance and construction sites
  • Safely use, clean, service, and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment and tools
  • Perform manual labor such as raking/shoveling dirt and asphalt, removing debris, and shoveling snow
  • Safely operate hand and power tools and construction and maintenance equipment such as compactors, front-end loaders, walk-behind saws and jackhammers
  • Perform grounds maintenance and clean up
  • Assist other divisions within the Public Works departments as business needs permit

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic operation and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment
  • Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
  • Safe operation of asphalt pavers, milling machines, and compaction equipment

Ability to:

  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods
  • Independently work in the absence of supervision

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
  • Three years of full-time, professional experience in related field
  • Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictions
  • Possess upon hire and maintain, a valid non-probationary Colorado Class B CDL not subject to restrictions

Current CDL (COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE) holders must register your CDL with the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse at https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov)
