    Performs semi-skilled work in the operation of moderately complex construction/maintenance equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for performing tasks of average difficulty involving the safe operation and routine maintenance of assigned equipment. Tasks, at times, are performed under hazardous conditions and employees are expected to be particularly alert and careful. Under general supervision, employees are required to exercise some initiative and independent judgment in completing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma/GED; one (1) year of experience in the operation of assigned equipment required; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience. Must be able to read, write, and follow instructions. CDL Class A license required upon hire; tanker endorsement required upon hire or within 90 days of hire.

    Definition:

    Moderately complex equipment, normally over 26,000 GVW, can be operated after an informal training session of two to four weeks. The equipment is normally operated by one (1) employee on public roadways. The consequence of errors can be significant in terms of cost of repairs and damage to other private vehicles and there is a chance of injury to other employees and citizens.

    If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

    • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
    • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
    • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
    • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
