Savage is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator at our Cliffside, NC Operation. We are looking for a Coal System Equipment Operator who will be responsible for safely performing the basic tasks required to operate the coal handling system, operate industrial mobile equipment, and perform general maintenance on equipment and facilities at a coal-fired power plant.

What You'll Be Doing

Operate conveyor systems to transport coal in accordance with applicable safety practicesRailcar SwitchingUnload and reclaim limestone and coalMaintenance, trouble shooting and repairing facilities, equipment and coal handling systemPerform routine clean-up and housekeepingComplete daily safety inspection of equipment and facilities to ensure safe operations

What you'll need

Experience in operation of dozers, front-end loaders, excavators, locomotives and other heavy equipmentAbility to read, write, and understand English, follow written and/or verbal instruction, and possess basic math and computer skillsUnload and reclaim limestone and coalWork with a team, take direction from supervisors(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rulesMust be willing to work any shift, including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed2-5 years of experience preferred but not requiredValid Drivers License

Here are some of the physical requirements for this role

Work in an environment containing coal dust, hazardous noise, confined space, and in hot or cold environmentsWork at heights, climbing stairs and climbing laddersWalk on uneven ground and up to 3 miles per shiftMust be able to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for the purposes of wearing a respirator and recertify annually or as neededLift up to 50 pounds frequently
