Equipment Operator

Position Summary

The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment in support of construction activities on commercial and industrial projects. This position requires experience operating multiple types of construction equipment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and quality. Equipment Operators work closely with superintendents, foremen, and craft personnel to complete excavation, grading, material handling, and other site preparation activities.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Safely operate construction equipment including:
    • Excavator
    • Mini Excavator
    • Skid Steer
    • Forklift (rough terrain preferred)
    • Backhoe
    • Buck Hoist (when qualified)
  • Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handling activities.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, equipment, and supplies throughout the jobsite.
  • Read and understand grade stakes, markings, and basic site plans as required.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and complete required documentation.
  • Identify maintenance needs and report equipment issues promptly.
  • Fuel, lubricate, and maintain assigned equipment.
  • Assist with manual labor and other construction tasks when equipment operation is not required.
  • Follow excavation safety practices and maintain awareness of underground utilities.
  • Maintain safe work areas and protect surrounding personnel and property.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, spotters, and other equipment operators.
  • Comply with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Demonstrated experience operating:
    • Excavator
    • Mini Excavator
    • Skid Steer
    • Forklift
    • Backhoe
  • Ability to safely work around underground utilities, structures, and other trades.
  • Ability to perform daily equipment inspections.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety.
  • Reliable transportation to project sites.

Preferred

  • Experience operating Buck Hoists.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Experience working on large commercial, industrial, or data center construction projects.
