Position Overview
The Equipment Operator-Mosquito Control PT performs routine work operating a fog truck equipped with an Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) sprayer to apply insecticide treatments for the reduction of adult mosquito populations throughout the St. Lucie County Mosquito Control District. Work is performed under the direction of the Lead Fog Truck Driver and involves night operations, safe pesticide handling, accurate reporting, and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports public health initiatives and community mosquito control efforts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires frequent walking, standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, and extended periods of sitting while driving. The position requires use of both hands and feet with good manual dexterity, as well as adequate vision and hearing (with or without correction). Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently is required. The role also requires sufficient physical stamina and strength to operate equipment and perform manual tasks associated with vehicle operation, fueling, inspections, and spill response activities.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: This position primarily involves nighttime driving and outdoor work, often in adverse weather conditions such as rain, fog, humidity, and heat. Employees may be exposed to pesticides and chemicals used in mosquito control and must adhere strictly to safety and label requirements. Work occurs in areas with pedestrian and vehicular traffic and may include exposure to environmental hazards such as insects, snakes, spiders, wasps, bees, ants, and toxic plants. Required safety equipment may include gloves, goggles, respirator, ear protection, closed-toed shoes, protective clothing, and mandatory seat belt use while operating vehicles. All PPE should be in accordance with the product label.

Driving Position - Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.
