Position Overview

 

The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment used in the production, handling, and transportation of materials, including but not limited to Loaders, Back Hoes, Track Hoes, Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 

  • Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, bulldozers, graders, and haul trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform pre-operational inspections and routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues or needed repairs.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and MSHA/OSHA regulations.
  • Load, move, and stockpile materials according to operational needs.
  • Assist with site preparation, grading, and material placement as required.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to ensure safe operation and prevent accidents.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and plant personnel.
  • Perform general labor duties when equipment operation is not required.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Keep time and material records.
  • Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications.
  • Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit.
  • Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.
  • May perform physical tasks involved with laying pipe and utility lines, and/or tasks involved with road construction and laying asphalt, etc.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience operating heavy equipment (construction, quarry, or plant environment preferred).
  • Working knowledge of equipment maintenance and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred (may be required based on role).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, or nights as needed.

  • MSHA Certification
