Position Overview

The Equipment Operator keeps Streib's projects moving by safely operating, maintaining, and managing our fleet of heavy equipment, including skid steers, excavators, trenchers, and other machinery. This individual is more than an operator — they are the go-to resource for equipment on our job sites, responsible for keeping machines in top working condition and training team members to operate them safely and effectively.

This role is ideal for a hands-on candidate who takes pride in their equipment, works well with field crews, and enjoys sharing their knowledge with others. If you've run equipment on construction sites and want a home where your skills are valued and developed, we want to talk to you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate skid steers, excavators, and other heavy equipment for site work, trenching, and excavation on commercial and multifamily projects.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on all company equipment, including fluids, filters, tracks/tires, and attachments.
  • Identify and coordinate repairs, working with vendors and service providers as needed.
  • Maintain equipment logs, service records, and inspection documentation.
  • Train and mentor field team members on safe and proper equipment operation.
  • Coordinate equipment scheduling and transportation between job sites.
  • Support field crews with site preparation, digging, grading, and material handling.
  • Follow and promote all safety standards, including utility locates and dig-safe practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating skid steers, excavators, or similar heavy equipment on construction sites.
  • Valid Class E Driver's License (or ability to obtain).
  • Certification or documented training on heavy equipment operation (e.g., skid steer, excavator), or ability to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of equipment maintenance — fluids, greasing, inspections, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong safety mindset and awareness of underground utilities and site hazards.
  • Reliable, self-directed, and comfortable communicating with crews, PMs, and vendors.

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience on electrical or utility construction projects.
  • Experience training or leading others on equipment.
  • Ability to haul equipment with trailers.
  • Mechanical repair or maintenance background.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, standard business hours. Occasional extended hours may be required based on project needs.
