Description

The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking a qualified Equipment Operator, Senior to maintain and operate heavy equipment utilized in performing routine maintenance and repairs to assure safe and proper operation of the City of Richmond Storm Water, Sanitary and Combined Sewer infrastructure. The Equipment Operator Senior primary function will be driving Commercial vehicles with beginner excavating skills using heavy equipment (backhoe, gradall, bobcat, front end loader, skid steer, track hoe, ditch master, excavator, Vactor Truck) and operating Commercial Vehicles and trailers over 10,000lbs.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Vactor Truck Operator Basin Cleaning (Sewer/Manhole)

  • Assembles tools, materials and equipment for daily work assignments; transports personnel to and from work site

  • Dump Truck Drivers/Heavy Equipment Operator (Beginner)

  • Perform routine maintenance, repair and inspections of piping systems

  • Securing Worksite, Spot for Drivers and Equipment Operator, Locate Underground utilities, pipefitter

  • Using hand tools, chainsaw, weed eater, zero turn mower, pesticide application, haul materials to landfill

  • Setup Worksite for Traffic Control and Serve a Flagger, Use manual, pneumatic, gas, electric hand tools.

  • Work in Confine Space

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience at the Equipment Operator level and successfully completing training on the types of equipment that is used at this level of assignment
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Drivers License
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Drivers License with proper endorsements in accordance with Department of Motor Vehicle regulations
  • If assigned to road maintenance, may require Hazmat and Tanker license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Commercial vehicles and equipment

  • Chemicals and chemical reactions
  • High tension rigging systems and hoisting mechanisms, including winches and grip hoists, as well as their various safe applications

  • Removing snow when necessary
  • Responding to emergency events
  • Setting up job sites such as cordoning off areas with cones or signs
  • Stocking vehicle with necessary supplies
  • Using a radio and phone
  • Using chemicals properly
  • Using and operating various equipment safely and correctly such as constructions vehicles, vacuums, pressure sprayers, paving equipment, hand grinders, chain saws, woodshop tools, etc.
  • Operating vehicles and machines such as light and heavy dump trucks, tandem trucks, bucket trucks, boom trucks, compressor dump trucks, heavy rollers, pay loaders, backhoes, tractors with batwings, etc.
  • Operating equipment and tools used in the Equipment Operator classification as well as those listed above
