    Job Description

    Purpose/Description

    The Equipment Repair Specialist 2 perform a wide variety of mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy equipment, heavy trucks, pumps and compressors. Master mechanics repair virtually any system on the vehicle or equipment.

    • Educational Requirements

    • Certification in five (5) Automobile or Heavy Truck Mechanic licensing areas

    • Master Mechanic certification required within five (5) months of appointment (State of Michigan and /or A.S.E. only)

    • Valid Driver's License

    • Experience Requirements

    • At least two (2) years full-time paid experience in repair and maintenance of automobiles and heavy equipment (training at a certified technical school may be counted as experience);

    • Required Knowledge

    • Mechanical-Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.

    • Engineering and Technology-Must be able to read and understand equipment repair manuals. English Language-Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.

    • Required Tasks

    • Major Duties:

    • Repair equipment (shop specific)

    • Diagnose equipment

    • Place parts order

    • Maintain work area

    • Test drive vehicles.

    • Test components and systems using equipment such as engine analyzers, compression gauges and computerized diagnostic devices.

    • Repair, reline, replace and adjust brakes.

    • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings and other potentially troublesome areas.

    • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and tune- ups.

    • Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors.

    • Rewire electrical or electronic systems.

    • Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material: Inspect mechanical components of vehicles to identify problems.

    • Operate Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment: Operate various equipment and vehicles to demonstrate function or malfunction.

    • Service heating, ventilation or air-conditioning (HVAC) systems or components.

    • Service vehicles to maintain functionality.

    • Required Knowledge
