Job Title: Equipment Repair Technician

GovFirst is seeking a hands-on Equipment Repair Technician to support transportation infrastructure projects in Southeast Virginia (Chesapeake, VA). This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining diesel trucks, construction equipment, highway maintenance equipment, automotive vehicles, and other motorized and mechanical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Diagnose and repair diesel trucks, gasoline-powered vehicles, highway maintenance equipment, construction equipment, and automotive vehicles using testing tools, repair manuals, and electronic diagnostic systems.
Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems, fuel systems, suspension systems, and air brake systems.
Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, equipment overhauls, and scheduled servicing of fleet vehicles and equipment.
Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical issues and recommend appropriate repairs.
Coordinate with or recommend qualified outside vendors for major repairs when necessary.
Perform welding, fabrication, and modification of components to repair, rebuild, or replace damaged equipment parts.
Complete work orders, maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Support emergency operations by preparing and maintaining equipment during storms and emergency response events.
Perform on-the-road service calls and emergency equipment repairs as required.
Assist with fuel site operations, including fuel deliveries, inspections, inventory tracking, and required compliance documentation.
Safely operate service vehicles, shop equipment, hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with company safety standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or project management.
Experience working in a shop or mechanical repair environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of automotive, diesel, construction, highway maintenance, or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel and gasoline-powered equipment.
Ability to safely operate trucks, maintenance equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, gauges, schematics, and diagnostic equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while effectively coordinating with supervisors and team members.
Comfortable performing physically demanding work in both shop and outdoor environments.
Basic computer skills for completing work orders, maintenance reports, and repair documentation.
Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
Experience using electronic diagnostic and testing equipment preferred.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Vocational or technical training in automotive, diesel, or equipment repair preferred but not required.
Equivalent hands-on mechanical experience may be considered.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Valid driver's license required.
Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and DOT Medical Card preferred, or ability to obtain within eleven (11) months of hire. (preferred not required)
Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling Certification preferred, or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire. (preferred not required)
Virginia State Equipment Inspection License preferred, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. (preferred not required)
ASE Certifications are a plus. (preferred not required)
AFMP Class C Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification and Fire Extinguisher Certification preferred, or ability to obtain within eleven (11) months of hire. (preferred not required)
