Our client, a mid-sized institutional asset management firm headquartered in Boston's Financial District, is hiring an Equity Research Analyst to join their equity strategies team. This role supports the firm's long-only and long/short equity funds by delivering fundamental analysis across a defined sector coverage universe. The analyst will be responsible for building and maintaining investment theses from initial screening through active portfolio monitoring.

The position sits within a team of eight research professionals and reports directly to the Director of Equity Research. Coverage responsibilities will be assigned based on candidate expertise, with current openings in the healthcare and technology sectors. The firm manages approximately $4.2 billion in assets under management and serves a client base of pension funds, endowments, and family offices.

The ideal candidate brings prior sell-side or buy-side research experience, strong financial modeling skills, and the ability to communicate complex investment ideas clearly in written form. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week on-site at the Boston office.

  • Conduct fundamental analysis of public equities across assigned sector coverage
  • Build and maintain financial models including DCF, comparable company, and precedent transaction analyses
  • Author initiating coverage reports and ongoing research updates for internal and external distribution

  • Present investment theses and recommendations to portfolio managers and investment committees
  • Collaborate with the trading desk and portfolio teams to support active investment decisions
  • Track industry developments and competitive dynamics affecting covered companies
  • Maintain proprietary databases of financial data and sector-specific performance metrics

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience in equity research, investment banking, or buy-side financial analysis
  • CFA designation or active CFA Level II or III candidacy strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg Terminal, FactSet, and advanced Excel financial modeling
  • Strong written communication skills demonstrated through prior research or analytical reports
  • Ability to form, articulate, and defend independent investment views under scrutiny
  • Experience covering healthcare, technology, or financial services sectors preferred
  • Series 7 and Series 66 licenses or willingness to obtain within six months of hire

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary with annual performance-based bonus
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance effective day one
  • 401(k) plan with employer match up to 4%
  • Hybrid schedule with three days on-site and two days remote
  • Full CFA exam fee reimbursement and dedicated study time
  • Annual continuing education and professional development stipend
  • Paid parental leave for all parents
