A bit about us:

We are working with a nationally recognized trial law firm that has built its reputation representing individuals and families in high-stakes personal injury and wrongful death matters.

With offices across the country and a growing New York practice, the firm combines the resources and casework of a national platform with the opportunity for attorneys to make a real impact. Their team handles significant, complex matters and has recovered substantial results for clients and families navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

As the firm continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Estates Attorney to become a key part of their Manhattan team and take ownership of the estate issues that intersect with their litigation practice.

Why join us?

Take ownership of estate matters within a large, established litigation practice
Work on sophisticated probate and estate administration matters with direct impact on active cases and settlements
Traditional estates and probate attorneys are encouraged to apply — prior personal injury experience is not required
Serve as an internal resource for attorneys across the firm on estate-related issues
Opportunity to lead and improve processes within an established Estates Department
Work directly with families, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, attorneys, and outside estate counsel
Competitive compensation with flexibility depending on experience
Medical, dental, and vision insurance
Paid time off
Retirement plan and commuter benefits

Job Details

The firm is looking for an experienced attorney to oversee estate-related matters involving deceased clients, claimants, beneficiaries, and distributees.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with a strong background in probate, estate administration, or Surrogate's Court proceedings who is interested in bringing that expertise into a larger litigation environment.

You do not need to come directly from a personal injury firm. Attorneys coming from a traditional trusts and estates or probate practice will be strongly considered.

Responsibilities will include:
Handle probate and estate administration matters from inception through resolution
Prepare, review, and oversee petitions and supporting documents filed in New York Surrogate's Courts
Handle fiduciary appointments and Letters of Administration
Attend Surrogate's Court appearances throughout New York
Advise attorneys on estate issues impacting litigation, settlements, releases, and distributions
Assist with estate matters involving personal injury, survival, and wrongful death claims
Prepare and review wrongful death compromise petitions and related court submissions
Work directly with families, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and other interested parties
Coordinate with outside estate counsel for matters involving jurisdictions outside New York
Research probate, estate administration, fiduciary, and jurisdiction-specific issues
Monitor estate proceedings through completion
Serve as the firm's primary internal resource for estate-related legal questions
Help oversee the day-to-day operations of the Estates Department and support its legal staff

What We're Looking For:
J.D. from an accredited law school
Active New York Bar license in good standing
3+ years of attorney experience involving estates, probate, or estate administration
Experience with New York Surrogate's Court proceedings
Strong understanding of probate, fiduciary appointments, and estate administration
Excellent legal drafting, research, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to independently manage multiple estate matters

Plaintiff personal injury or wrongful death experience is a plus, but it is not required.

If your background is primarily in trusts & estates, probate, or estate administration, we would still love to speak with you.
