For over 100 years, Maguire Iron has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Estimating Assistant will provide administrative support to the estimating coordinator and estimators in their day-to-day operations. 

Essential Functions:

  • Provide support to estimating staff with bid preparation
  • Contact and coordinate with engineers, vendors and subcontractors
  • Maintain and track bid list and bid packets to ensure timely and accurate bid submission
  • Request and file documents, data entry and task tracking
  • Maintain estimating schedule/calendar including bid due dates
  • Perform a variety of administrative and office support functions to ensure the daily operations of the department runs efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Construction Management or similar field preferred.
  • Proficiency in cost estimation and project budgeting.
  • Familiarity with construction industry.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in using spreadsheets, databases, and estimating software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.

The ideal candidate must have a working knowledge of all job-specific operating procedures, be extremely quality conscious and detail-oriented, accept responsibility and accountability for own actions, can work independently with minimal supervision, be able to build solid relationships with internal and external customers, be dependable and trustworthy, and have advanced computer skills.

Work Environment:

  • Majority of the time is spent in an office environment.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

In the early 1900’s Michael J. Maguire emigrated from Ireland to the Newton/Waltham area where he worked in the plumbing industry. He served in the United States Army during WW1 and following discharge, he continued working in the plumbing industry.

Circa 1922 he began providing plumbing and steam heating services as Michael J. Maguire Plumbing and Heating with three employees working on residential projects. Michael Maguire’s three sons William, Robert and Michael became master plumbers. His second son, Robert, grew the business to include commercial service and construction projects and incorporated the firm in 1969 as Maguire Company, Inc.

Robert’s second son, Dennis V. Maguire, became a master plumber and has continued the family tradition. Today the Maguire Company, Inc. is a vibrant third-generation family owned and operated corporation providing a wide range of plumbing, heating, mechanical contracting services to residential, commercial and institutional clients.
