POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Estimating Manager your roles and responsibilities will include:
The Estimating Manager 1 will prepare cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals for commercial construction projects. This role will develop detailed project estimates, coordinate subcontractor and vendor pricing, identify cost-saving opportunities, and work closely with project, operations, and field teams to develop efficient construction approaches.
Key Responsibilities- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from project plans and drawings.
- Read and interpret project specifications.
- Prepare complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.
- Develop and manage scopes of work for all trades.
- Solicit, coordinate, and evaluate subcontractor and vendor bids.
- Prepare material and cost summaries based on vendor quotations.
- Coordinate plans and specifications with subcontractors and vendors.
- Participate in bid-day coordination and procurement presentations.
- Evaluate project schedules, logistics, staging, and phasing when developing estimates.
- Support analysis of building components and MEP systems.
- Identify and develop value engineering / cost-saving opportunities.
- Collaborate with operations and field teams to determine more economical construction methods.
- Prepare professional, comprehensive estimating deliverables.
- Maintain accurate documentation and an audit trail from estimate to estimate.
- Provide training and mentorship to other team members.
- Gain exposure to self-perform estimating and field operations as opportunities arise.
QUALIFICATIONS
Most importantly, you need to be a passionate Estimating Manager who enjoys his work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal Estimating Manager would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
- Commercial construction estimating experience
- Experience estimating $20M+ projects
- Experience with On-Screen Takeoff (OST)
- Experience with Building Connected
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Bachelor's degree
- Approximately 2 5+ years of relevant experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work with subcontractors, vendors, clients, project teams, and field personnel
