Role Overview: As an Estimator at United Infrastructure Group, UIG, you will play a critical role in the pre-construction phase of our projects. You will be responsible for preparing and coordinating comprehensive cost estimates that will inform and support managements decision-making. Your expertise will be essential in accurately forecasting project costs for conceptual designs, design-build proposals, and hard-bid work. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Pre-Bid Process: • Review and analyze project bid documents, including plans, specifications, and addenda, to fully understand the scope of the estimate. • Attend Pre-Bid meetings to gather crucial project-specific information. • Conduct site visits to obtain local and project-specific data necessary for accurate bid preparation. • Solicit quotes from required vendors and subcontractors, ensuring timely delivery and participation. • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and accurately estimate labor, material, subcontract, and construction equipment costs. • Prepare and participate in Bid Reviews with Management to ensure quality and accuracy of estimates. • Assist in the preparation of bid-level schedules.

• Bid Process: • Maintain an up-to-date Vendor/Subcontractor database. • Collaborate with other estimators and bid sponsors to address issues that arise during the bid process. • Create and utilize spreadsheets to evaluate and compare vendor and subcontractor bids. • Obtain and review prequalification information from subcontractors.

• Post-Bid Process: • Participate in hand-off meetings to transfer information to project teams. • Provide support to project management teams, including value engineering and major change orders. • Archive and organize bid information for future reference. • Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and vendors. • Visit ongoing projects to observe construction and apply experience to future estimates. • Train and mentor other estimators while also engaging in ongoing training.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

• 4-year degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent technical training and field experience. • 3-4 years of estimating, engineering, or similar experience in civil/structural construction. • Strong knowledge of concrete materials and construction methods, including formwork, reinforcing steel, and architectural finishes. • Proficiency in estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing. • Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations to determine quantities and costs. • Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents. • Proficiency in computer applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, AutoCAD, and Primavera. • Excellent communication and people management skills with the ability to work effectively within a team. • Technical awareness of construction products, means, and methods. • Strong time management and multi-tasking abilities with a proactive approach to work. • Ability to track job costs and maintain cost databases for estimates. • Insight into project scheduling as it relates to civil/structural construction. • Knowledgeable in construction equipment and able to manage equipment rental rate databases. • Safety-minded with a focus on incorporating safety-related means and methods into estimates.

REQUIREMENTS:

• All applicants must be 18 years of age. • Able to pass a Drug Test. • Legally eligible to work in the US. • Open to working different shifts if needed by the project. • Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites every workday (drivers license preferred). • Willingness to travel for project requirements, including multi-state opportunities.
