Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates using digital estimating platforms, maintaining organized electronic records, and collaborating with Project Managers and Operations teams to support preconstruction and bidding efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bid Work:
  • Identify and analyze electrical work as described in contract documents, specifications, and drawings, including scope, schedule, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform detailed drawing take-offs manual & electronic (Planswift, Bluebeam).
  • Perform detailed write-ups using estimating software (e.g., Excel, ConEst, Accubid).
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor quotes to ensure best value.
  • Support pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and proposal development.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations teams to align estimates with constructability and project strategy.
  • Prepare value engineering options and cost analyses.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, labor agreements, material price fluctuations, and union jurisdictional rules.
  • Utilize project management systems (SharePoint, etc.) for document control and bid tracking.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (HS diploma with equivalent experience acceptable).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in electrical estimating, with strong knowledge of labor, materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Proficiency with estimating software platforms (Accubid, Bluebeam, etc.) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong technical ability to accurately estimate projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume bid environment.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Preconstruction, Project Management, and Operations teams.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT CRITERIA:
  • Accuracy of estimates compared to actual project costs.
  • Bid success ratio and contribution to company backlog growth.
  • Timeliness and completeness of estimate submissions.
  • Quality of vendor/subcontractor relationships and pricing competitiveness.
  • Collaboration and support provided to Project Managers and Operations teams.
