 Senior Heavy Civil Estimator

Location: Coastal North Carolina

Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site

An established heavy civil contractor with a long-standing reputation for delivering quality infrastructure projects is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its growing preconstruction team. This newly established role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the company's continued growth while working alongside an experienced leadership team.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned estimator with extensive heavy civil or site development experience who enjoys leading complex pursuits, mentoring others, and contributing to the strategic success of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete cost estimates for heavy civil and site development projects from concept through bid submission.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements to develop competitive pricing strategies.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and comprehensive cost evaluations.
  • Develop budgets for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations and evaluate proposals.
  • Participate in pre-bid conferences, site inspections, and scope reviews.
  • Lead internal estimate reviews and assist with final proposal preparation.
  • Evaluate opportunities for self-performed work versus subcontracted scopes.
  • Maintain estimating databases, production rates, and historical cost information.
  • Provide estimating support during project startup, value engineering efforts, and change order pricing.
  • Foster strong working relationships with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Coach and support junior estimators while helping improve estimating processes and best practices.

Desired Qualifications

  • Five or more years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction, earthwork, utilities, or site development.
  • Thorough understanding of heavy civil construction operations, including:
    • Mass excavation and grading
    • Earthmoving and cut/fill calculations
    • Underground utility installation
    • Foundations and structural site work
    • Dewatering operations
    • Heavy equipment productivity and utilization
  • Ability to interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational abilities.
  • Comfortable managing multiple estimates while meeting aggressive bid schedules.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
