Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction estimates.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications.
  • Solicit, review, and qualify subcontractor and supplier proposals.
  • Develop project budgets and detailed cost analyses.
  • Identify value-engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings and client presentations.
  • Analyze project risks, scope gaps, and pricing exposures.
  • Assist with bid preparation and proposal submissions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and clients.
  • Support project teams during turnover from preconstruction to operations.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and historical cost databases.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, and executive leadership.

The Successful Applicant

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience with a commercial general contractor.
  • Experience preparing estimates for commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, materials, and costs.
  • Proficiency reviewing plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and managing multiple estimates simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Stable work history demonstrating commitment and professional growth.
  • Experience with public sector, government, education, healthcare, or institutional projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Experience with budgeting, conceptual estimating, and value engineering.
  • Knowledge of local subcontractor and vendor relationships.
