Job Description

The Estimator - Design-Build Firm - Government & Commercial Projects will be responsible for:

• Preparing detailed conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction cost estimates for government and commercial building projects.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, RFPs, and design documents to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing.
• Collaborating with project managers, architects, engineers, and operations teams throughout the design-build process to evaluate scope and project feasibility.
• Soliciting, evaluating, and leveling subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive and complete project pricing.
• Identifying project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives while maintaining quality and schedule requirements.
• Developing comprehensive bid proposals, budgets, qualifications, and pricing narratives for client submissions.
• Analyzing labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to ensure accurate project forecasting.
• Participating in preconstruction meetings and supporting clients with budget planning and cost guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintaining current knowledge of market conditions, subcontractor availability, material pricing trends, and industry best practices.
• Supporting contract negotiations, change order pricing, and project handoff activities to the operations team upon award.
• Ensuring estimates comply with federal, state, local, and client-specific procurement requirements, particularly for public-sector projects.
• Assisting with business development efforts by supporting proposal pursuits and helping secure new project opportunities.

The Successful Applicant

The Estimator - Design-Build Firm - Government & Commercial Projects will have:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of estimating experience within the construction industry, with exposure to government, federal, municipal, or commercial building projects.
• Experience preparing conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates throughout various stages of design and construction.
• Strong understanding of design-build project delivery methods and preconstruction processes.
• Proven ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive cost estimates from drawings and specifications.
• Experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing across multiple trades.
• Knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, materials, and building systems.
• Familiarity with government procurement processes, public bids, and compliance requirements is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, Procore, or comparable platforms.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, designers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel for cost analysis and budgeting.
• Ability to identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving solutions while maintaining project objectives.
• Experience supporting both negotiated and competitive bid opportunities is preferred.
• Security clearance eligibility or prior experience working on federal projects is a plus.
