Estimator/Senior Estimator
Location: Chicago, IL
Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 (Depending on experience)
The Estimator is responsible for preparing conceptual, budgetary, and hard-bid estimates for commercial construction projects. The successful candidate will analyze plans and specifications, solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids, identify value engineering opportunities, and help position projects for successful execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate budgets and proposals.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Analyze project risks, scope gaps, and constructability concerns.
- Participate in project handoff meetings with operations and project management teams.
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages, proposals, and presentations.
- Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and market pricing information.
- Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers, and clients throughout the preconstruction process.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions without compromising quality.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience with a general contractor.
- Experience with corporate interiors, office buildouts, tenant improvement, or commercial renovation projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems.
- Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and construction management tools.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
