Responsible for developing material takeoffs and cost estimates for various business segments as required by RFQs, RFPs, Sales team and other client bid documents for New Construction projects under direct supervision. Assisting in document creation/review and estimate/proposal creation of larger projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
Identify, mark, takeoff and estimate products from contract/bid documents, including all revisions/addendums. Some examples would be taxes, liquidated damages, wage requirements, schedules, bonds, project labor agreements, etc.
Maintain accuracy of takeoffs, estimates, and quotations of products through review of project specifications, material and labor items as well as the complete estimating workbook.
Forward requests for information (RFI's) as required to sales rep for items that are not clear but could affect overall cost.
Interact with supervisors and other departments (Engineering, Operations) on unusual products to ensure all cost factors have been accounted for and that customer schedules can be met. This can be by one on one or scheduled group meetings.
Contact suppliers to obtain pricing for materials and review quotations for accuracy.
Enter cost and selling totals in database for tracking.
Where pre-determined standards are not available, responsible to provide reasonable estimate.
Informs immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or database.
Drafts bid documents, bonds, additional bid requirements and or proposals for review.
Maintains communication with sales rep and or customer with status of proposals.
Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, maintains standardized cut sheet database, etc.
Review and update resource information (standard drawings/specifications, checklists and notes) to ensure items that impact cost are up to date.
Maintain adequate lead time on takeoff/estimate preparation.
Sort and file plans and specifications for long term storage
Anticipated travel for educational purposes and pre-bid meetings – 25%
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management preferred.
1+ years in construction or fabrication.
1+ years in cost estimating preferred.
Proficient in using computer-aided design (CAD) software, excel, Word, Bluebeam, RS Means, Microsoft Project
Ability to read/understand engineered documents, CSI codes & ASI documents.
