Estimator

Remote / United States

Job Purpose

TRC’s client is seeking an experienced Estimator to support the pursuit and execution of mission-critical data center construction projects across North America. This individual will be responsible for developing conceptual, budgetary, GMP, and hard-bid estimates for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center projects. The Estimator will play a key role in evaluating project costs, analyzing risks, coordinating subcontractor pricing, and supporting project pursuits from early design through construction award.

This position requires strong estimating experience within data center, mission-critical, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, industrial, or other highly technical construction environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of MEP systems, electrical infrastructure, backup power systems, cooling systems, and fast-track construction delivery methods.

Job Description

The following is an overview of the responsibilities required for this position but does not represent the full breadth of activities.

Estimating & Preconstruction
Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, GMP, and hard-bid estimates for data center and mission-critical construction projects.
Review drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and project documentation to develop comprehensive cost estimates.
Perform quantity takeoffs for civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems.
Develop detailed project budgets, cost models, and pricing strategies throughout various stages of design.
Analyze labor productivity, equipment costs, material pricing, escalation factors, and market conditions to maintain accurate and competitive estimates.
Maintain historical cost databases and benchmarking information to support future pursuits and budgeting efforts.
Subcontractor & Vendor Management
Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
Develop bid packages, scope sheets, and pricing comparisons to ensure complete project coverage.
Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to validate pricing assumptions and project scope requirements.
Identify potential gaps, overlaps, and risk items during the bidding process.
Project Collaboration & Cost Strategy
Partner with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and operations teams to validate construction means and methods.
Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving initiatives while maintaining project quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
Participate in design reviews, preconstruction meetings, client presentations, and project pursuit activities.
Assist leadership teams with strategic pricing decisions and project risk assessments.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
5+ years of estimating experience within commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or technical construction environments.
3+ years of experience estimating data centers, semiconductor facilities, pharmaceutical facilities, advanced manufacturing plants, or other highly technical construction projects.
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and mission-critical infrastructure systems.
Experience preparing estimates ranging from $10M to $500M+ construction projects.
Proficiency with Bluebeam, OST, Sage Estimating, Destini, Timberline, WinEst, or similar estimating software.
Preferred
Direct experience estimating hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center projects.
Experience supporting Design-Build, EPC, CMAR, and GMP project delivery methods.
Professional certifications such as CPE, LEED, PMP, or related industry credentials.
