Job Summary
The Building Automation Estimator – Level V is an enterprise‑level expert capable of handling any project complexity. This role shapes Basepoint’s estimating philosophy and supports the most advanced, specialized, or high‑risk pursuits.
Responsibilities
- Advise executive leadership on estimating risk, pricing, and market dynamics.
- Solve complex or unprecedented estimating challenges.
- Mentor Principal and Senior Estimators.
- Drive innovation in estimating tools, governance, and methodology.
- Support extraordinary or mission‑critical pursuits.
Decision Authority
- Operates with near‑autonomy.
- Influences enterprise‑level risk and pricing decisions.
Internal Coordination
- Collaborate with engineering to confirm system architecture, control strategies, and technical scope prior to bid submission.
- Participate in internal scope reviews and estimate turnover meetings to ensure clarity and completeness.
- Coordinate with project management teams during awarded project handoffs to validate scope, budget, and assumptions.
Industry Partner Relationships
- Serve as a consistent estimating contact for mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, and equipment suppliers.
- Support long-term industry relationships through responsiveness, accuracy, and technical credibility—without ownership of sales or account management.
- Attend selected partner meetings, pre-bid walkthroughs, and post-bid reviews when appropriate.
Market & Technology Awareness
- Stay current on building automation platforms, HVAC systems, controls hardware, energy codes, and estimating best practices.
- Monitor market pricing trends, labor assumptions, and vendor costs to support competitive and accurate estimates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
- Accuracy of assigned takeoffs and estimate components
- Timeliness and quality of estimating support
- Completeness and organization of bid documentation
- Responsiveness to internal team and partner requests
- Demonstrated growth in estimating and technical proficiency
Requirements
- 10+ years of advanced estimating experience.
- Ability to travel 20% of the time.
- Subject‑matter expert level technical authority.
- Associate degree or coursework in Construction Management, Engineering, HVAC, or a related technical field preferred; or equivalent experience.
- Interest in building automation, HVAC controls, or construction estimating.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents with training.
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets and estimating software.
- Ability to communicate clearly with internal team members and external vendors.
- Willingness to learn Basepoint estimating standards and processes.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel daily to client locations and work sites
- Level 1: Sedentary Work
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional walking and/or standing on uneven and/or unimproved surfaces
- Occasional travel to partner offices, project sites, or Basepoint locations.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at time
