Location: Durham, NC (Full-Time Onsite)
Compensation: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
Final compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and skills.

Job Summary

The EV Charging Tier 2 Technician is responsible for supporting the reliability, performance, and availability of EV charging infrastructure and associated power systems. This role serves as an escalation point for complex technical issues and works closely with customer support teams, Network Operations Center (NOC) personnel, field service technicians, equipment manufacturers, and external partners to diagnose and resolve charging station and power system incidents.

This position requires strong troubleshooting capabilities, electrical power systems knowledge, and the ability to meet demanding service level agreements (SLAs) in a fast-paced operational environment. The role primarily supports West Coast operations and business hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve EV charging station, network, and power system issues within established SLA requirements.
• Monitor charging infrastructure performance and proactively identify potential service disruptions.
• Manage, prioritize, and execute technical service tickets from creation through resolution.
• Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, manufacturers, and field technicians to resolve technical issues.
• Conduct root cause analysis of hardware, software, communications, and infrastructure incidents.
• Provide technical guidance and recommendations to address connectivity and network communication issues.
• Support remote diagnostics of DC Fast Charging (DCFC) equipment and associated electrical systems.
• Document troubleshooting activities, findings, and corrective actions within ticket management systems.
• Escalate recurring or critical issues and recommend long-term solutions.
• Assist with continuous improvement efforts to enhance charger uptime and operational efficiency.
• Participate in periodic on-call support rotations for critical service escalations.
• Conduct occasional site visits to charging locations for troubleshooting, inspections, and operational support.
• Perform additional duties and technical projects as assigned.
• Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience supporting electrical power systems and fault diagnostics.
• Strong understanding of:
• Protective relay schemes and coordination
• Electrical fault conditions and system behavior
• Power distribution system fundamentals
• Electrical and electronic systems and applications
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in time-sensitive environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based ticketing systems (Salesforce or similar platforms).
• Working knowledge of cellular, Wi-Fi, and IP-based communications networks.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, overtime, and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting EV charging infrastructure or related energy technologies.
• Experience with switchgear, circuit breakers, and power distribution equipment.
• Knowledge of DC Fast Charging (DCFC) systems and charging network operations.
• Experience working in a Network Operations Center (NOC) environment.
• Prior experience in a startup or rapidly growing technology organization.
• Familiarity with utility operations, renewable energy systems, or distributed energy resources.
