This position provides technical, administrative, and facility operational support for the Center for Public Safety

Normal hours: M-Th 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.

22 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • General office duties.
  • Compile BLET, EMT, and Paramedic student packets.
  • Register, grade and close out classes in Colleague.
  • Assist with registering day and night classes.
  • Monitor all classrooms and public areas via installed cameras.
  • Provide evening office coverage.
  • Adjust classroom setups as needed for classes and check room cleanliness.
  • Coordinate with the cleaning staff for general and additional required cleaning needs.
  • Assist with supply orders.
  • Check facility for security purposes prior to leaving in the evening.
  • Monitor the parking lot area for safety/security concerns.
  • Assist students interested in any WTCE class by phone, email, or in person.
  • Maintain student confidentiality under FERPA standards.
  • Make copies for directors, instructors and others when needed.
  • Maintain building security during class time and after closing.
  • Ability to utilize copiers, scantron and other office equipment.
  • Clean classroom white boards periodically.
  • Direct and coordinate evening emergency response with campus police and local law enforcement.
  • Refer any facility problems to the director.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Other duties as determined by the Director.

  • Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common correspondence and reports.
  • Possess the ability to articulate professional responses to common inquires and/or complaints from students, staff, or the public; and make proper referrals for the complaints.
  • Possess the ability to write using proper grammar.
  • Possess the ability to effectively present information to students, staff, or the public.
  • Present a professional image to students, instructors and the general public that reflects the positive attributes and philosophy of Surry Community College.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to apply and understand standard mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Possess an understanding of and the commitment to the unique nature and role of the college and to the philosophy of the community college system.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma. Must possess good customer service skills and the ability to multi-task; and have proficient use of Microsoft Office. Possess good written and oral communication skills; possess the ability to carry out work assignments while handling frequent interruptions or distractions.
