POSITION JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Evening School Social Worker

NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1

RATE OF PAY: $40 PER HOUR

HOURS: 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience or Training

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Worker endorsement
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university
  • Previous experience working with high school students

Desired Experience or Training

  • Previous high school experience
  • Social-emotional intervention experience

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

PLANNING AND PREPARATION

  • Demonstrate knowledge of school social work theory, practices, and techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Establish goals for social work services appropriate to the setting and the students served.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal regulations and resources, both within and beyond the school and district.
  • Plan social work services that are integrated with the regular school program, including crisis prevention, intervention, and response.
  • Develop methods to evaluate services and communicate relevant findings.

  • Create an environment of respect and rapport.

DELIVERY OF SERVICE

  • Assess student social-emotional, behavioral, and educational needs.
  • Assist students, families, teachers, and other school personnel in addressing barriers that may impact student academic success.
  • Provide appropriate social-emotional interventions and support to students individually and in small-group settings.
  • Broker and coordinate school and community resources to meet student needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to student needs.
