PURPOSE
This position is responsible for the cleanliness and efficient set-up and breakdown of event spaces for a variety of meetings, banquets, and small-scale events at Mall of America. This position will assist as needed in the Waste & Recycling Center while providing a memorable shopping and entertainment experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set event rooms per specifications on room layout or diagrams, and/or given by Partnership Sales, ensuring quality room presentation.
- Tear-down and reset event space in preparation for the next event.
- Clean event rooms, including but not limited to:
- Clearing used dishes and glassware from the tables.
- Straightening and resetting tables and chairs.
- Changing soiled table linen.
- Sweeping or vacuuming floors.
- Removing trash.
- Ensure proper care, movement, and storage of all equipment, such as tables, chairs, sign holders, easels, room supplies, etc.
- Ensure service corridors, pre-function space, and storage areas are clean, organized, and unobstructed.
- Complete a quarterly inventory of equipment and report back to the Partnership Sales department.
- Clean, check, and perform simple maintenance on equipment regularly. Report and bring damaged or broken equipment to maintenance for timely repair.
- Read, understand, and follow event set-up diagrams or written room layouts for proper setup; understand and follow verbal instructions.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors within event spaces:
- Use commercial cleaning equipment to buff/shine hard floors.
- Clean and extract carpet.
- Deep cleaning of event space, including:
- Washing walls, tables, chairs, pillars, fixtures, glass windows, baseboards, and ledges.
- Sanitizing restrooms.
- Assist in Waste & Recycling Center:
- Separate waste from recyclables.
- Empty trash and cardboard containers into compactors and bailers.
- Operate wet waste and recycling compactor.
- Empty cardboard compactors and bailers.
- Operate auto scrubber, pressure washer, and other powered machinery to clean sub-level and service corridors.
- Clean trash and recycling rooms, including sweeping, mopping, and pressure washing.
- May operate a forklift to move materials on and around the loading dock.
- Monitor loading dock activity to ensure items are disposed of in the proper location.
- Ensure emergency stairwell and exits throughout the mall are clear of trash and debris.
- Ensure the overall safety of the immediate work area as well as surrounding areas.
- Additional duties as assigned.
PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Previous event or banquet set-up experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience reading banquet or event set-up diagrams or blueprints and room layouts.
- Previous cleaning experience preferred.
- Experience safely operating equipment used in commercial cleaning, such as auto scrubber, floor buffer, vacuum, and other powered equipment.
- Ability to work variable and/or rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
