This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Event and Program Facilitator positions for the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts (PRAx) at Oregon State University (OSU).

The expansive mission of the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts is to activate the power of the arts and humanities across disciplines and in multiple settings-from the concert hall and theater to research labs and field sites. We are a space for transformative education for all, from OSU students and faculty to community members and youth in school, and we tap into the power of the arts to transform thinking across academic disciplines. PRAx seeks to provide unforgettable arts experiences at the intersections between art, humanities, science, and technology.

PRAx employs qualified, currently enrolled undergraduate students as paid Event and Program Facilitators, who serve as the first point of contact for members of the campus and Corvallis communities, visiting artists and performers, and rental clients. They represent PRAx through a variety of events and programs, from full-scale performances and rental events to smaller drop-in workshops and K-12 field trips.

Visitors represent a wide variety of interests and life experiences. PRAx Event and Program Facilitators are part of a team that creates a warm, welcoming presence that focuses on memorable experiences and creating opportunities for nuanced conversations. Facilitators spark conversations about art in the gallery, enhance visitor experiences at performing arts events and humanities presentations, host tours and facilitate activities for K-12 field trips, and provide hospitality for visiting artists. Facilitators also represent PRAx at large university events through tabling and outreach.

Through all their job duties, facilitators share information about PRAx, its upcoming performances and art on display, and they also share their personal positive experiences at PRAx to encourage community and student engagement.

All shifts are conducted in person. Student employees typically work 2-10+ hours per week on a flexible schedule that works with academic obligations. They receive ample and ongoing paid training to ensure success in the role. PRAx is seeking a team of individuals who enjoy working with people, bring a wide range of life experiences, and demonstrate enthusiasm for providing memorable arts encounters for students, faculty, youth, artists, and the wider community. Position Duties

Visitor Experience and Hospitality

• Serve as event host with minimal oversight or supervision, remaining attentive to client needs and visitor experience. This may include anything from providing an enthusiastic welcome to identifying issues/needs proactively and without guidance, responding appropriately, and communicating with on-site supervisors about any situations that may arise.
• Initiate conversations that engage a wide range of visitors about artwork, exhibitions, performances, and other programming at PRAx.
• Lead inspiring, educational K-12 youth field trips (will require youth policy training).
• Represent PRAx at tabling events on or off campus.

Event Setup and Monitoring

• Facilitate successful events and rentals.
• Act as greeter and guide for PRAx VIPs as assigned.
• Serve as backup usher or ticket scanner as needed.
• Run basic AV and presentation technology in Toomey Lobby, Stirek Gallery, and classrooms.
• Follow the daily notes and run-of-show/event schedule.
• Set up/strike tables, chairs, and other event materials and decor.
• Follow opening and closing procedures, including providing post-show summary information.

Artist/Speaker Experience and Hospitality:

• Support successful experiences of visiting artists, speakers, and performers.
• Review daily notes and instructions for artist/speaker hospitality.
• Greet and introduce artists to stage crew and other members of the PRAx front of house or back of house teams as appropriate.
• Prepare dressing rooms and green rooms for artists and speakers according to instructions.
• Ensure artist/speaker needs are met.
• Drive the PRAx Van as assigned.

Across all duties:

• Work across teams at PRAx, including engagements, events, gallery, and marketing.
• Bring enthusiastic, positive energy to both front-facing activities and in your work as part of a team.
• Participate in creating informed, compelling, and culturally-attuned materials to guide interactions with PRAx programming, including exhibition and building tours.
• Represent PRAx and serve as host with minimal oversight or supervision from staff members.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with all PRAx staff, volunteers, partners, clients and visitors.
• Take initiative to ensure the success of PRAx events.
• Anticipate and proactively address visitor, client, and event needs.
• Attend meetings to develop and maintain knowledge about exhibitions, PRAx initiatives, and performances.
• Follow all safety procedures.
• Maintain professional etiquette.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

• High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program

• Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

• Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

• Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

• International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

• Comfortable with moderate physical activity, including standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

• Demonstrate enthusiasm to go above and beyond in making memorable experiences for all who come to PRAx.
• Professional experience providing hospitality via phone, email, and/or in person.
• Experience working or volunteering in performing or visual arts spaces.
• Demonstrated engagement with PRAx events, programming, and/or organization.
• Demonstrated engagement with OSU's student resources, clubs and organizations, and/or the off-campus Corvallis community.
• Demonstrated experience with K-12 youth.
• Bilingual in a second language other than English.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

• Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Hours are based on the needs of events and programs. The schedule and number of hours are variable each week.
• May involve standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs., and working in dim lighting or noisy environments.
• All facilitators are required to attend annual fall training the week prior to the start of fall term.
• Use of personal electronic devices during shifts is prohibited except during breaks or for work-related communications. Attentiveness and situational awareness, often without direct supervision, are essential in this role.
• Appropriate Dress: Business Casual unless otherwise directed by a supervisor.
