Summary

This is the third of six levels in the Event Series.

As an Event Security Officer, you will be the front line of protecting our guests, team members, and property. You will provide excellent customer service to all while maintaining the safety, security, and order of Burton Coliseum Complex. Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL CLASS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Controls public entrance to the facility; checks for and prevents unauthorized items, including outside food and beverages from coming into the facility.
  • Accurately checks all staff/guests' bags to determine whether items contain objects that warrant further investigation and sets bags aside for searching or re-screening as indicated by equipment.
  • Operates walkthrough magnetometers, utilizes bag searching techniques, and/or hand wand metal detectors to screen guests, employees and contractors entering the venue.
  • Responds immediately and professionally to guest disturbances/incidents and assists law enforcement with escorts of unruly fans when ejections are warranted.
  • Responds to and assesses various emergency and sensitive situations in a calm, rational, and professional manner; effectively diffuses potentially volatile situations as needed and calls appropriate first responders to the scene as necessary.
  • Secures perimeter of ticketed areas.
  • Regulates and monitors credentials to ensure control of access into sensitive and/or restricted areas.
  • Works cooperatively with other departments and vendors within the area.
  • Consistently and continually enforces facility policies and procedures relative to prohibited items, disruptive guests, etc.
  • Aids guests during emergency situations such as sheltering in place and evacuations out of the building.
  • Identifies safety risks/violations and notifies management of potential issues.
  • Cross trains and assists with the set-up, support, and tear down of events as business demands and security needs permit; recommends procedures to increase event safety.
  • Ensure guests feel welcomed by greeting guests to the venue in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Arrives for shift on time, neatly groomed and in a clean, pressed well maintained uniform.
  • Answers guests' questions in a knowledgeable, helpful, and professional manner.
  • Assists with directional and informational inquiries.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not require any supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE

  • Speak and understand English.

  • Must be familiar with evacuation procedures and patron safety.
  • Must be trained in non-violent crisis intervention (CPI), First Aid, and other specified training as required within six (6) months of hire. These certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

  • Remain at assigned position until relieved or dismissed.
  • Communicate effectively and consistently with Burton staff.

  • Flexible schedule and ability to work late hours, weekends, long nights, and holidays.
  • Communicate clearly to everyone verbally, using radios, hand signals, and flashlights to remain in constant contact throughout the shift with team members and leaders.
