School of Music Student Workers

School of Music student workers support the administrative and production needs of the School of Music. Daily functions include supporting the practice rooms, classes, ensembles, concerts, and recitals throughout each semester.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Provide support for all recording sessions and student labs in the recording studio. Check students in and out of lab times. Ensure facility and equipment are proper working order after student use. Troubleshoot and provide general care for the Recording Studio and Songwriting Labs. Track studio equipment and supply needs. Complete studio-related tasks as assigned. Maintain a level of organization and cleanliness with equipment and rooms.

Provides excellent customer service to the professors and students of the School of Music. Communicates effectively through both written and spoken means with supervisor, professors, and students. Represents and serves the School of Music in a professional, kind, and humble manner. Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's Christian model and Mission - Training Champions for Christ.

Qualifications and Credentials

Minimum:

  • Friendly and willing to serve
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Experience with studio or live sound reinforcement (preferred)

Preferred:

  • Preferred upperclass or graduate REP or Publishing and Producing major
  • Work in a team environment
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, punctuality, and organization

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma
  • 1-2 years work experience in any field (preferred)
  • Work Hours: 12-18 hours per week

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.

Strong organizational skills. Computer skills - Microsoft Suite

Problem Solving:

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

May be required to travel across campus on rare occasions. May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally. Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business. Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

Working Conditions

Work Environment:

  • The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting.
  • It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.
  • For SOM productions and concerts, music levels may be above average, but will not exceed industry and OSHA safety standards.
  • Working environment may include facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.

Driving Requirements

Use of one's personal vehicle may be required for travel across campus in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
