Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Event & Cultural Affairs Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, promoting, and evaluating cultural arts programming, educational initiatives, historic preservation activities, and special events at the Liberty Theatre, Ma Rainey House, and Alma Thomas House. This position serves as the primary coordinator for public programming while working collaboratively with community organizations, artists, educators, volunteers, sponsors, and city departments.
The coordinator ensures these historic venues provide engaging, educational, and inclusive experiences that promote tourism, economic development, and community engagement while preserving the historical significance of each facility.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in event management, staff management, and customer service.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Educational and Training Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. The ideal candidate has one to two years of event experience. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism. Ability to establish, develop, and maintain good working relationships with clients, sponsors, staff members, and event attendees. Ability to prioritize tasks while working in a fast-paced environment. Outgoing personality, energetic and proactive approach to work. Detail-attentive skills are a must. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Computer literate with knowledge of event booking and diagramming systems. Ability to anticipate and make recommendations based upon the needs of the clients.
Physical Requirements
This work is typically performed at a desk or table. The employee must occasionally lift objects and move event items around. Will be active a lot when setting up for events, tours, etc.
The work is typically performed in an office, theatre building or historic facilities.

Retirement Plan
The Columbus Consolidated Government offers a defined benefit retirement plan to eligible employees who work in General Government and in Public Safety. Employees in the pension plan must meet both age and years of service requirements to qualify for retirement. The current vesting period is ten years, and the current pension contribution rate is 8% of your gross salary.
