Position Title: Excavator / Heavy Equipment Operator

Position Summary

The Excavator/Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of excavators and other heavy construction equipment to support site preparation, excavation, grading, trenching, and material handling activities. The operator must follow project specifications, safety regulations, and company procedures while maintaining productivity and equipment integrity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, backhoes, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment as assigned.
• Perform excavation, trenching, grading, ditching, and site preparation activities.
• Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and construction drawings.
• Load, move, and place materials according to project requirements.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete required maintenance reports.
• Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues promptly.
• Ensure safe operation around underground utilities, structures, and personnel.
• Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific procedures.
• Assist with general construction activities as needed.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and crew members.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
• Experience operating excavators and earthmoving equipment required.
• Ability to read construction plans and grade stakes preferred.
• Knowledge of excavation safety and trenching regulations.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
• NCCER Heavy Equipment Operator certification is a plus.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with construction operations.
