JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Exceptional Children Behavior and Autism Specialist

LOCATION: Exceptional Children Programs (School Locations TBA)

SALARY: Teacher's Salary Schedule

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months (with option to extend to 11 month)

REPORTS TO: Director of Exceptional Children

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science (or higher) in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, special education, or related field is required.
  • Experience in providing educational and/or behavioral services for students with disabilities including autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities and other behavior disorders.
  • Minimum of five years experience providing services to students with disabilities.
  • Must possess a valid North Carolina teaching license.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regularly visit schools to provide coaching and modeling of effective behavior intervention strategies.
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments.
  • Assist with developing behavior intervention plans, and support implementation of established plans.
  • Assist with development of progress monitoring tools and analysis of progress monitoring data.
  • Design and deliver professional learning for teachers and administrators.
  • Collaborate with school- and district-based colleagues.
  • Attend IEP meetings, as determined appropriate.
  • Effectively present complex information on behavior, behavioral assessment, and implementation of behavior plans to staff and families.
  • Work with children and adolescents that have behavioral, learning and social challenges.
  • Work with a variety of service providers and agencies.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge, including adhering to strict confidentiality standards.
  • Develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community members.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, and others.
  • CPI certification or willingness and ability to become certified.
  • Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations
