    JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, the exceptional children's coordinator will ensure compliance to established policies, procedures, and/or regulations as required to maintain the school's program of services. This position will assist teachers and Instructional Assistants in developing strategies or improving instruction and ensuring compliance with student IEP goals.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    1. Assist the Principal with oversight of coordination with EC teachers to plan for Annual Review and Re-evaluation meetings.
    2. Collaboratively work to develop and establish objectives and instructional programs at the school level to ensure alignment with student IEPs.
    3. Promotes and maintains open communication with stakeholders such as, but not limited to, district communication, colleagues, parents, and students.
    4. Aids in completion and accuracy of site-based records and reports from internal and external requests.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Accurately maintain records as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.

    2. Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to plan for student support, reporting, and service delivery.

    3. Represent the district as the LEA representative for IEP annual, Re-Evaluation and Manifest Determination meetings as directed by the Principal.

    5. Serve as the resource for EC Teachers regarding EC process, available assessments, and required procedures to remain in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.

    6. Reconcile Head Count, EOY IEP closeout, Audits and other state reporting information as related to IEPs.

    7. Review all school IEPs to ensure quality and compliance while ensuring accuracy of information on IEPs.

    8. Plans and coordinates professional development opportunities to support compliance with EC records.

    9. Assist teachers in preparing for IEP meetings including the development of Present Levels of Performance, long term goals, and short-term objectives on IEPs.

    10. Perform random internal audits of IEP records.

    11. Ensure all families/guardians receive current information regarding applying for Innovations Waiver services to prepare for transition to adult life post-graduation, and update families as appropriate.

    12. Document employee training events and maintain training records in accordance with regulatory requirements.

    13. Be an active member of the crisis response team in order to assist students in times of crisis, including engaging in approved physical restraint techniques if necessary for student and staff safety.

    14. Maintains a professional rapport with program/site staff.

    15. Maintains awareness of fire drill procedures, all drill preparation and emergency contingency plans for the school site.

    16. Implements the school's emergency procedures as requested.

    17. Perform related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Minimum Qualifications Desirable Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.

    • Three years of successful experience as an EC classroom teacher.

    • E nrolled in an accredited MAEd program in Educational Leadership leading to North Carolina licensure as a K-12 school administrator.

    • Active Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification.

    • Employment is contingent on successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training and enrollment in accredited MAEd program within 6 months of hire.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS

    Ability to work with diverse individuals and/or groups. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. Effective oral and written communication skills.

    CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS

    Requires the ability to interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing in stressful and emergency situations. Provide and deliver professional, helpful, high-quality service and assistance before, during, and after requirements are met.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE

    • Basic computer skills with applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, etc.

    • A bility to exercise patience and deal tactfully with students, parents, and school personnel.

    • Considerable knowledge of school law, especially as it relates to behavioral challenges with students with intellectual disabilities and Autism.

    • Knowledge of the procedures involved in maintaining accurate records.

    • K nowledge of policies and practices of the school regarding school laws around seclusion and restraints.

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all persons contacted during the course of the work.

    • Considerable knowledge of theory, techniques, and procedures of behavior modification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sedentary/Medium - Must be able to exert up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally, and up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 5 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift and/or carry 30lb.s Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, or other monitoring devices. Environmental Conditions: Varies from indoors exposure to outside weather conditions Hazards: Uneven walking/working surfaces, communicable diseases, cleaning chemicals, lifting/carrying of materials, and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
