What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hour, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which includes but is not limited to:

Location

The Office of Human Resources within the City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field three days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days. The mandatory in office day is Monday, and core business hours are between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

What You'll Do

The City and County of Denver's Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking a highly organized, polished, and proactive Executive Assistant to provide primary support to the Executive Director and occasional support to the OHR Senior Leadership Team. This role requires exceptional communication skills, strong judgment, and the ability to anticipate needs within a fast‑moving, high‑visibility executive environment.

This position is ideal for an experienced EA who thrives in a dynamic, relationship‑driven environment and enjoys being a key partner to senior leadership. Additionally, you will collaborate with OHR staff and leadership across our city-wide team on various duties to support our mission of creating OneHR.

Responsibilities

Executive Support

  • Manage, update, and coordinate a high‑volume calendar with frequent changes, shifting priorities, and tight turnaround times.
  • Prepare for meetings, manage agendas, gather discussion items, and ensure leadership teams have what they need.
  • Provide occasional personal‑related logistical support (e.g., travel coordination).
  • Serve as the primary administrative support for the Career Service Board, including agendas, meeting materials, minutes, and coordination with the legal agencies
  • Serve as an extension of the Executive Director-representing OHR professionally with internal leaders, external partners, and the Mayor's Office.

Office Management & Operations

  • Oversee office needs, including ordering snacks, water, and supplies for staff
  • Manage vendors, purchasing, invoices, office operations, and other administrative functions that keep the Executive Director and the department running smoothly
  • Manage the Anniversary Pin Program, including ordering, tracking, and distributing materials.
  • Assist with general office upkeep across OHR's consolidated workspace.

Relationship & Workflow Management

  • Communicate professionally with OHR directors and city leaders; know when and how to push back on scheduling conflicts or unrealistic requests.
  • Greet candidates and visitors, escort them to meetings, and occasionally deliver items to the Mayor's Office or other city departments.
  • Support planning for leadership retreats and department events, using available tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to research options and generate ideas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested

What You'll Bring

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to represent OHR professionally.
  • Ability to regularly handle sensitive personnel, legal, and executive information
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail orientation-able to track multiple tasks and prevent items from falling through the cracks.
  • Forward‑thinking mindset; anticipates needs without being asked.
  • Comfort using modern productivity tools to streamline work (AI tools, scheduling tools, digital research).
  • High level of polish and professional presence (business casual; no athletic wear unless switching shoes during errands).
  • Prior experience as an Executive Assistant strongly preferred, ideally 5+ years.
  • Experience supporting VP‑level or higher executives in a large or complex organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of administrative/secretarial experience which must include one (1) year of experience at the type and level providing support to a manager responsible for large, complex divisions or the highest-level manager of a small organization.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
