The New Yorker is seeking an Executive Assistant to work closely with its Editor. The Editor’s work spans editing, writing, newsroom leadership, public appearances, and a wide range of internal and external commitments. The Executive Assistant will provide high-level administrative and editorial support across these responsibilities, helping to manage competing priorities, anticipate needs, and insure that the Editor’s office operates smoothly and effectively. The role will also take on special projects as they arise.
Responsibilities:
Managing the Editor’s complex calendar, including prioritizing meeting requests, coordinating appointments, and anticipating scheduling needs and conflicts.
Liaising with departments across The New Yorker and Condé Nast, as well as with writers, contributors, and other external partners, on behalf of the Editor’s office.
Reading and providing feedback on pitches, article submissions, and drafts of New Yorker pieces.
Conducting research and preparing background materials for the Editor’s interviews, reported pieces, meetings, and other work.
Managing the end-to-end awards submission process, working closely with editors and the Communications department to identify submissions, coordinate materials, and meet deadlines.
Filing expenses and coordinating travel arrangements.
Planning and coordinating in-house and offsite events.
Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager.
Skills and Qualifications:
At least 3-5 years of professional experience involving a combination of editorial and administrative responsibilities.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Meticulous organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs, identify and solve problems, and adapt quickly as priorities change.
Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of colleagues, contributors, senior leaders, and external partners.
Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Deep familiarity with and engagement in The New Yorker, its writers and artists, and its distinctive style and concerns, as well as a strong interest in the broader media, cultural, and literary landscape.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $75,000 - $85,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
