Here's the Role:
At the Lower Colorado River Authority, our leaders’ words reach millions of Texans who rely on one of the state's most essential public utilities. We're seeking a director-level executive communications professional to help shape that voice and to report directly to the Senior Vice President/Chief Communications Officer.
This high-visibility individual contributor role is embedded within LCRA's Communications team. You'll develop speeches, legislative testimony, executive presentations along with other strategic content for the General Manager/CEO, executive vice presidents and other senior leaders. This content will support legislative hearings, regulatory proceedings, board meetings, public forums, industry conferences and community events.
Your work will support LCRA Communications’ “Communications That Lead,” a bold initiative to modernize our communications. Expect to work across formats, from polished speeches and board presentations to digital-first content for collaborators. You’ll also help prepare for important events by providing direct messaging support, coaching, presentation training and other key functions.
This role requires political and industry knowledge, technical proficiency, and an executive presence that earns trust. You’ll work directly with executives to understand their voice, objectives and audiences. Relationship-building is not a soft skill here; it is a core requirement.
How You’ll Contribute:
- Develop presentations, remarks and talking points for executives and senior leaders.
- Assist in developing legislative testimony on LCRA’s priority issues.
- Build clear and compelling executive presentations in PowerPoint and other modern platforms.
- Work independently with senior executives to produce materials that reflect their thinking and advance organizational goals.
- Lead issue management and communications support for high-profile initiatives.
- Monitor the Texas legislative landscape and regulatory environments to offer relevant and modern communication approaches.
- Partner with the Communications team to align executive messaging with LCRA’s broader narrative, external communication efforts and digital communications.
- Adapt your schedule to match the Capitol's pace during legislative sessions.
How You’re Qualified:
- Twelve or more years of experience in strategic communications, executive communications, public affairs, journalism or a related field.
- A degree(s) in journalism, communications, public affairs, English or a relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
How You’ll Stand Out:
- Collaborative colleague who elevates the people around you and makes the team better.
- Experience in energy, water, transmission or public utility communications.
- Background in issues management for large-scale projects with active public or regulatory scrutiny.
- Ability to work comfortably, directly and credibly with C-suite executives.
- Clean, direct writing style adaptable across formats.
- Familiarity with AP Style and high standards for accuracy, clarity and consistency.
