The Executive Director is the innovative leader of LSPA, responsible for overseeing administration, developing educational and cultural programs, creating and implementing fundraising strategies, revenue generation, and strategic plans of the organization. Further strengthening its already strong community relations and while having fun leading the LSPA in taking advantage of exciting opportunities. The Executive Director manages and performs all personnel actions for a team of employees and contractors as well as many dedicated volunteers.

Key Job Function Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Demonstrates strong leadership in guiding Artistic Directors and staff toward shared organizational goals
  • Builds a unified team culture across LSPA, prioritizing collective success over individual program silos
  • Facilitates consistent communication through weekly or bi-weekly Artistic Director meetings and monthly all-staff sessions
  • Oversees the performance management process, including the delivery of comprehensive biannual reviews and reports
  • Serves as a strategic liaison between the LSPA Board and staff to ensure transparent and effective communication

Management

  • Day-to-day supervision of the LSPA performing arts staff and Director of Operations.
  • Responsible for overseeing the overall administrative functioning of the organization including staffing structure and exploring opportunities to increase organizational efficiency through changes in the organizational chart.
  • Determine staffing needs and hire staff as needed.
  • Maintain a high-performing team by managing and overseeing all aspects of hiring, separations, staff development, performance management, compensation, and benefits.
  • Collaborate with the Board to create the strategic plan and guide staff in its implementation and evaluation.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of annual program plans, including action plans, budgets, and evaluation tools and metrics.
  • Ensure continuous excellence through clear and transparent measurement of milestones and goals.

Finances

  • Responsible for building the annual LSPA budget and monitoring expenses and income to ensure LSPA remains on budget and informs the President of any significant changes that will impact LSPA and its financial well-being.
  • As needed, provide the Executive Committee with a “roll forward” several times a year to ensure any gaps in funding are identified as early as possible. Provide the Treasurer with a financial report for each Executive Committee and Board meeting.
  • The Executive Director will work in conjunction with the board to develop short-term and long-term strategic plans/vision to grow the organization and create sustainable goals for the future.
  • Work with Financial Specialist to:
    - Work with an accounting firm to ensure that monthly taxes, payroll, and sales, are calculated and paid.
    - Work with an independent accounting firm to ensure that an annual compilation is performed, and all necessary IRS requirements are met.
  • Oversee and manage daily administrative and operational functions, including managing contracts for commercial insurance and professional services, procuring and servicing office equipment, handling document retention, integrating technology, and overseeing corporate registrations and trademarks.
  • Oversee the adoption and implementation of technology solutions to enhance productivity and streamline processes for fundraising, team collaboration, document creation and retention, communication, and record keeping.

Marketing and External Relations

  • Oversee marketing strategies and methods.
  • Supervising of brand building.
  • Builds the annual LSPA production schedule along with other organization directors and ensures the appropriate local organizations are aware of scheduling for their Arts Calendars.
  • Expanding donor base and overseeing community outreach and relationships.
  • Ensure that patron relations are positive throughout all areas and organizations within LSPA.
  • Reach out to patrons, at least annually, to request donations.

Development

  • Responsible for working with the Director of Development to raise funds to meet the annual budget to support LSPA goals, objectives, and productions through:
    - Securing private donors.
    - Applying for corporate and foundation grants.
    - Applying for local City grants.
    - Applying to appropriate State agencies for grants.
  • Work with the Fundraising Committee in determining annual Board fundraising activities.
  • Seeking new avenues to raise funds for the organization.

Board Governance

  • Coordinate and assist in determining the LSPA productions for each season.
  • Foster relationships with trustees to ensure their active contribution to the organization's culture, strategic focus, effectiveness, and financial sustainability, and to encourage their role as ambassadors and advocates.
  • Coordinate Board activities, including administration and the development and evaluation of strategic plans.
  • Supply the Board with the information needed for timely and accurate decision-making.
  • Attend all Board meetings, presenting financial reports and updates on staffing, ongoing projects, timelines, and organizational progress.
  • Implement Board policies and procedures while building staff support for Board
  • Works closely with Artistic Directors and Directors of Production of all LSPA productions to ensure the best production quality and that the director's needs are met.
  • Ensures that the LSPA Box Office Director handles all ticket sales and staffing of LSPA events.
  • Coordinates venue location for procurement of the needed production locations.
  • Facilitate LSPA's outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate with the fundraising efforts of individual organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3 or more years of nonprofit and/or arts management experience, with a history of success in:
    - Fundraising and generating new revenue streams.
    - Improving financial results.
    - Organizational growth
  • Experience in both facility and theater management.
  • Excels in team leadership, organizational management (eg. Tactical Human Resources and IT areas) and strategic planning.
  • Possesses a clear passion for the Arts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other Windows applications required.
  • Creative and quick problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building high-performing teams and fostering a culture of organizational unity
  • Acts as a strategic liaison between the LSPA board and staff, ensuring clear boundaries and seamless cross-functional communication
  • Expertly synthesizes complex information into concise, professional updates for both executive leadership and internal teams

Benefits & Working Conditions

Salary: $90,000-$100,000 annually

Relocation Package Offered 

Working Hours

Minimum average of 40 hours per week. This may fluctuate as weekends are worked for productions.

Work Environment

  • Events and programs may require meetings in or visits to other venues or workspaces.
  • Sedentary work. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Work Perks

Paid Time Off

  • 0 – 2 years of service = 5 days (40 hours) annually
  • 3-5 years of service: 10 days (80 hours) annually
  • 5 or more years of service: 15 days (120 hours) annually

* New full-time employees become eligible to use accrued PTO after completing 60 days of continuous employment with LSPA.


Education

  • Tuition compensation for students within classes that are not considered individual or private. This will be considered income and is taxable.
