The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Downtown Oregon City Association (DOCA), a Main Street America 501(c) (3), providing strategic leadership to advance the organization's mission to strengthen downtown Oregon City as a vibrant, welcoming, and economically thriving historic commercial district.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads the organization's operations, finances, fundraising, strategic planning, and public engagement. In partnership with key stakeholders, the Executive Director advances the strategic plan, follows Main Street America principles, and ensures long-term organizational sustainability and success.
Primary Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Implement the strategic direction established with the Board of Directors.
- Provide leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers.
- Support effective Board governance through communication, planning, and policy implementation.
Financial Management & Fundraising
- Prepare and manage the annual operating budget.
- Oversee sound fiscal practices with regular financial reporting to the Board of Directors.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including sponsorships, grants, donor development, and strategic partnerships.
Downtown Economic Vitality
- Support business recruitment, retention, and expansion initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with downtown businesses and property owners.
- Advocate for projects and policies that strengthen Downtown Oregon City.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Serve as the primary public representative of DOCA.
- Maintain productive relationships with the City of Oregon City, regional partners, community organizations, elected officials, and various stakeholders.
- Represent the organization at public meetings, official proceedings, community events, and professional organizations.
Programs & Events
- Provide strategic oversight of DOCA's events, programs, and initiatives, fulfilling all requirements.
- Lead staff and volunteers in planning and executing successful events.
- Ensure organizational events and programs align with DOCA's mission and strategic priorities.
Organizational Administration
- Oversee contracts, insurance policies, grants, and organizational records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and nonprofit best practices.
- Monitor organizational performance and recommend improvements.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Proven leadership with some combination of nonprofit management, downtown revitalization, economic development, community development, destination management, and municipal government.
- Strong organizational and strategic planning skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial accounting principles and fiscal management.
- Successful fundraising, grant writing, sponsorship development, or resource development experience.
- Experience supervising staff and working collaboratively with Boards of Directors.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to build productive relationships with businesses, public agencies, community partners, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Proficiency with modern office productivity and administrative systems, including cloud-based collaboration tools (such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Office), customer relationship management (CRM) software, and digital file management.
- Working knowledge of digital communications and marketing platforms, including email marketing, website content management, social media, and other online engagement tools.
- Proficient in utilizing AI and emerging technologies to enhance organizational effectiveness, streamline workflows, and support data-driven decision-making while maintaining accuracy and accountability.
- A commitment to collaboration, transparency, public service, and the mission of strengthening Downtown Oregon City.
Preferred Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Main Street America programs or downtown revitalization organizations.
- Economic development organizations.
- Community event management.
- Marketing, tourism, or destination development.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, nonprofit management, communications, planning, economic development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible professional experience.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried position. The starting salary will be between $65,000 - $70,000/year depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include paid holidays, vacation, sick leave and medical insurance.
