Summary

Job Summary

The Executive Director of the Hospital District Foundations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Foundations (which encompasses the UMC Foundation, El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, Fundacion UMC de Mexico, and each entity's respective programs/events. The Executive Director will report directly to the Chief Advocacy Officer (under the direction of the Hospital District President & CEO) and will work closely with the respective hospital CEO’s, Foundation Board of Directors, government officials, and the public. The Executive Director will ensure that the Foundations' Associates are aligned with the mission and vision and are working together to successfully achieve strategic objectives. Develops and promotes the business case of its respective hospitals to the community and stakeholders. Supports identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and serving as a steward with major donors and foundation prospects, as well as exploring fundraising opportunities for the entire organization (including but not limited to naming rights, grant opportunities, fundraising events, etc.). In collaboration with staff, designs and implements innovative programs to identify prospective major gift donors, devises and executes plans to qualify, contact, and cultivate potential new donors, while tracking and managing the emerging prospect pool to develop reports and monitor program results.   Builds and adapts programs to ensure  long-term sustainability.

 

Minimum Job Requirements

 

             Work Experience  

Seven years of management experience is required.  Strong experience in fundraising and program management, business development, marketing, public relations or public policy planning. 

 

License/Registration/Certification

Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred. 

 

Education and Training

Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communication, Marketing, Business Administration, or other related field required.    Master’s degree in a related field required.

  1. Knowledge of nonprofit and foundation operations, including governance, board relations, donor stewardship, and community engagement.
  2. Knowledge of fundraising strategies and revenue‑generation models, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate giving, planned giving, and special events.
  3. Knowledge of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and fiscal accountability.
  4. Knowledge of public relations, branding, and communications practices, including media relations and community outreach.
  5. Skilled in strategic planning and execution, with the ability to translate organizational goals into measurable fundraising and operational outcomes.
  6. Strong leadership and team‑building skills, including coaching, motivating, and developing staff to achieve organizational objectives.
  7. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for engaging donors, board members, hospital leadership, and community stakeholders.
  8. Skilled in relationship cultivation, including building long‑term donor, grantor, and partner relationships through proactive outreach and stewardship.
  9. Skilled in policy and procedure development, ensuring consistent, compliant, and efficient operational practices across all Foundation functions.
  10. Ability to analyze fundraising performance, identify trends, and adjust strategies to maximize revenue and donor engagement.
  11. Ability to manage complex events and initiatives, coordinating logistics, staff, volunteers, and external partners to ensure successful outcomes.
  12. Ability to represent the Foundation and Hospital District professionally, serving as a credible and compelling ambassador in public and private settings.
  13. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, especially when handling donor information, financial data, and board‑level matters.
