Job Summary:
The candidate will provide administrative support to the Labor Relations team and will be responsible for handling strictly confidential information. The role requires strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills, along with experience in HR-related tasks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain digital and physical files.
Handle various inquiries and provide appropriate assistance.
Scan and organize documents and records.
Conduct file checks to ensure information is accurate and complete.
Handle strictly confidential information with discretion.
Assist with general administrative and HR-related tasks as needed.
Education & Experience:
An associate's or bachelor's degree is preferred, particularly in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, Public Administration, or a related field. Relevant administrative or HR experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, depending on the position's formal classification requirements.
A minimum of two (2) years of relevant administrative, human resources, employee relations, labor relations, or comparable professional office experience is preferred. Experience working in a confidential HR environment, higher education, a unionized workplace, or with employee/labor relations matters is highly desirable.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, email, and scheduling.
Previous HR experience.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
Ability to handle confidential information professionally and discreetly.
Experience with HRIS systems is preferred.
Miscellaneous Information
Shift Timing: Monday - Friday between 8:30am and 5:00 pm.
Paid Parking facility available.
Stony Brook LIRR Station connected to campus. Suffolk County Bus stops on campus.
Interviews will be conducted virtually. The interview process will focus on the candidate's organizational skills, professionalism, judgment, confidentiality, customer service, communication skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a sensitive HR environment.
Training will be provided on Employee and Labor Relations processes, applicable systems and case-management practices, office procedures, collective bargaining agreements, document handling, confidentiality requirements, and other responsibilities specific to the position.
