Saint Joseph's College of Maine is hiring for the per diem position of Exercise Instructor!

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Exercise Instructor supports the Health and Wellness program by providing exercise instruction to students, staff, faculty, and outside community members, and providing general assistance to the Wellness department.

POSITION DUTIES:

Provides exercise instruction by:

  • Designing, executing, and leading group classes in a positive, energetic way that enhances an individual's overall wellness
  • Providing effective workouts that are fun and challenging for all levels of fitness
  • Giving appropriate progressions and modifications
  • Providing positive motivation and confidence in coaching individuals
  • Managing time effectively
  • Ensuring a clean, friendly and welcoming class atmosphere

Provides general assistance by:

  • Tracking participation by having participants sign in and sign a waiver at the beginning of each class
  • Preparing rooms with equipment before class
  • Sanitizing and putting away equipment at the end of class
  • Providing appropriate music
  • Reporting any equipment that is damaged or missing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification (i.e. SilverSneakers, Aqua Fitness, Spin, Yoga, etc.) or specialty class certification or license
  • Must be able to maintain applicable Group Fitness certification/licensure
  • Current CPR/AED certification (no online CPR/AED certification accepted)
  • Must be able to maintain CPR/AED certification
  • Degree, or currently working towards your degree, in health, exercise science, recreation or a physical activity related field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Must have knowledge of general fitness principles
  • Must have knowledge and experience in teaching designated exercise class
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to effectively communicate and interact with all levels and functions within the organization
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Detail oriented and able to provide clear instructions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • Tolerates work related stress effectively and maintains self-control/professionalism

Required trainings to be completed (upon hire)

  • Bloodborne Pathogen & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Hazard Communication & The Global Harmonizing System
