Are you a highly skilled carpenter who's ready to take on more responsibility and looking for professional development support?
Do you love mentoring others, collaborating on complex builds, and continuing to deepen your craft?
Juniper Design + Build is an award-winning residential design/build company working in Portland, Maine, and its surrounding communities. We create beautiful, energy-efficient, sustainably-built custom homes and renovations.
We're hiring a Carpenter 3. This role is designed for experienced carpenters who want to grow professionally while contributing to outstanding residential projects. You know how to build anything, but you might not feel like being the lead on every project. We offer excellent pay and benefits, including fully paid health insurance, generous paid time off, a tool allowance, and professional development support.
We do things differently
For starters, we're majority women-owned and managed. As much as we admire people with mad skills, we don't hire for skills alone. We have a diverse, respectful, and positive work culture—and a fantastic team—and we're looking for people who really understand the value of that and want to be part of it.
We're invested in helping to move the building industry to more environmentally sustainable practices. We focus on high-performance building and carbon reduction. We're all in on building science and strive to use optimal techniques and materials. We're always learning. You will be too.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a highly skilled carpenter with 7-10 years of hands-on experience across a range of residential construction projects. You should be an expert in all core carpentry tasks like framing, siding, window and door installation, air sealing, and finish work. This role is ideal for someone who can take direction from a Lead Carpenter but also take initiative and work independently when needed.
You'll be expected to support a collaborative, respectful job-site culture that includes mentoring junior carpenters and stepping into a leadership role when the Lead is off-site. Clear communication is essential, both with teammates and clients, as you'll occasionally serve as a point of contact on-site.
We're especially interested in candidates who are curious about high-performance building practices and eager to grow their knowledge of sustainable construction. Certifications like OSHA10, Lead Safe, and Net Zero are a plus—but not required to apply.
