Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Case Management: Assist attorneys in all stages of family law matters, including divorce, custody, support, and modifications; draft pleadings, motions, and discovery requests/responses.
2. Document Management: Organize and maintain case files, including financial statements, parenting plans, and court filings, ensuring all documents are accurate and easily accessible.
3. Trial and Hearing Preparation: Assist in preparation for hearings, mediations, and trials by compiling exhibits, preparing witness lists, and coordinating with court personnel.
4. Client and Team Communication: Communicate with clients in a professional and empathetic manner; gather sensitive information and provide case status updates; act as a team-player assisting other paralegals and attorneys.
5. Deadline Management: Track and manage deadlines for filings, responses, court appearances, and mediation requirements, ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures.
6. Billing and Timekeeping: Record billable hours accurately and assist with preparing invoices for clients.

Job Details

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution.
  • One or more years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on family law or litigation preferred.
  • Familiarity with family court procedures, filing requirements, and local rules.
  • Experience preparing financial affidavits, statements of income and expenses, and asset/liability summaries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with document management and e-filing systems.
  • Prior courtroom, mediation, or hearing preparation experience preferred.
  • Adaptability and willingness to take on new tasks as they arise.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to structure complex projects efficiently and set/adjust priorities effectively; superior attention to detail; excellent judgment and use of discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
