Position Overview

Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced Fitter Welder to join a fabrication team in Claremore. This position requires a skilled candidate who can perform both fitting and welding responsibilities while maintaining high standards for accuracy, weld quality, and safety.

Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of fitter experience and must successfully complete a hands-on fitting and welding test. The test requires candidates to prepare their own plate using a 9-inch grinder before completing an open-root 3G MIG and Flux Core weld.

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of fitter experience required
• Previous welding and metal fabrication experience
• Strong MIG and Flux Core welding skills
• Ability to successfully complete the required hands-on weld test
• Experience preparing and fitting materials prior to welding
• Ability to bevel plate using a grinder
• Strong measuring, layout, and fit-up skills
• Ability to work independently on fitting assignments
• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
• Commitment to workplace and welding safety

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Fit and assemble fabricated metal components according to production requirements
• Measure, position, align, and prepare materials prior to welding
• Prepare joints and materials for proper weld fit-up
• Bevel plate and other materials as required
• Perform open-root MIG welding
• Perform Flux Core fill and cap welding
• Verify fit-up, dimensions, and alignment before final welding
• Inspect completed work for quality and accuracy
• Identify and correct fit-up or welding concerns
• Safely operate grinders, welding machines, and related fabrication equipment
• Maintain consistent productivity and workmanship throughout the shift
• Follow all company welding, fabrication, and safety procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Perform additional fitting, welding, and fabrication duties as assigned

Weld Test Requirements

Candidates must successfully complete the following hands-on test:

• 5/8-inch thick plate
• Candidate must bevel their own plates
• Beveling performed using a 9-inch grinder
• 3G position
• Open-root MIG weld
• Flux Core fill and cap
• Completed test must meet required quality standards

Candidates should be comfortable completing their own material preparation and fit-up before beginning the welding portion of the test.

Preferred Qualifications

• More than 2 years of Fitter Welder experience
• Structural or heavy fabrication experience
• Advanced MIG and Flux Core welding experience
• Open-root welding experience
• Strong grinding and joint-preparation skills
• Experience working with heavy plate
• Strong mechanical aptitude and fabrication troubleshooting abilities

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift
• Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, positioning, and repetitive physical activity
• Ability to safely operate a 9-inch grinder and other fabrication equipment
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for fitting and welding
• Comfortable working around steel, grinders, welding equipment, heat, sparks, and industrial machinery
• Ability to safely perform physically demanding fabrication work while wearing required PPE

Work Environment

• Industrial welding and fabrication environment
• Hands-on fitting, plate preparation, grinding, and welding responsibilities
• Regular use of MIG and Flux Core welding equipment and heavy-duty grinders
• Quality-focused environment requiring accurate fit-up and consistent weld workmanship
• Safety-sensitive work requiring proper use of welding and fabrication PPE
