The quality of medicine practiced at our Wyomissing location centers specifically on urgent veterinary care. You will gain deep experience managing crucial cases like toxin ingestion, skin allergies, dehydration, upper respiratory issues, and acute gastrointestinal illnesses, such as diarrhea and vomiting. Crucially, we intentionally triage the most severe, life-threatening emergencies - such as severe trauma or respiratory distress requiring overnight hospitalization - to 24/7 emergency facilities. This defined scope of practice allows you and your teammates to focus your energy on swift diagnostics and precise urgent treatments, mastering a high-impact medical workflow every day.

Temporary Part-Time Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant

PetHealth Urgent Care is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our growing urgent care team! Schedule

This part-time position is ideal for someone looking to work weekend shifts plus one to two weekdays each week.

Hospital Hours:

• Monday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Thursday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Friday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Saturday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
• Sunday: 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM

What We're Looking For

We're especially interested in candidates with emergency or urgent care experience, as we're expanding our medical team and need experienced support staff-particularly for weekend coverage.

That said, we know great veterinary professionals come from all backgrounds. If you're newer to the field but bring an outstanding attitude, strong work ethic, adaptability, and a willingness to learn, we'd still love to meet you. We believe the right personality and commitment can grow into an exceptional team member.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with urgent care appointments and treatments
• Safely restrain patients for examinations and procedures
• Obtain patient histories and maintain accurate medical records
• Perform laboratory sample collection and processing
• Prepare medications and assist with treatments as directed
• Support radiology, nursing, and pharmacy duties
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient treatment area
• Deliver compassionate care to patients and outstanding service to clients

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary assistant experience required
• Emergency or urgent care experience strongly preferred
• Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Passion for high-quality patient care and client service

Your Impact as an Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant

• Be a Critical Support in Urgent Situations: You'll be an essential part of the medical team, directly assisting veterinarians and technicians with hands-on patient care in a fast-paced environment.
• Ensure a Seamless Workflow During a Crisis: Your ability to anticipate needs and maintain composure will be key to keeping the clinic running efficiently, even during a medical emergency.
• Provide a Calming Presence for Clients: You'll be a reassuring point of contact for worried pet owners, assisting with check-ins, payments, and communications with empathy and professionalism.

What You'll Bring to the Team

• At least 1 year of veterinary experience, with ER or high-volume experience preferred.
• The ability to stay calm, composed, and efficient during a medical crisis.
• Confidence and skill in handling pets, with proficiency in basic laboratory, pharmacy, and nursing skills.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
• A flexible schedule, with availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
