Typical work includes maintenance and overhauls of reciprocating compressors and engines, technical support for maintenance personnel, engineering design and reviews, and lifecycle asset management. The position supports projects from planning through commissioning, ensures safe and reliable operations, and contributes to gas safety and asset integrity. It requires a mechanical background and a self‑directed, proactive approach.Position headquarters will be at Los Medanos Compressor Station, near Concord, CA. Applicants are preferred to live near the area for maintenance support. Travel to other facilities in the North Bay area will be required approximately 10% of the time.This is a hybrid role, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (Los Medanos Compressor Station).This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.ResponsibilitiesSafety: Lead by example, incorporate safety into designs, construction, and M&O activities. Ensure safe practices and procedures are communicated, incorporated, and followed.Maintenance & Operations Engineering Support: Asset owner for gas transmission facilities, providing guidance, mentoring, technical support to field personnel and engineers. Improve maintenance practices, assess equipment condition, ensure safety, compliance, oversee engineering studies, investigate and troubleshoot equipment or system problems, perform inspection, failure analysis, calculations, engineering design, and review of repairs or modifications, support equipment and facility outages, including outage planning, scope definition, and support during outages.Project Support: Prepare long‑range forecasts for expense work and capital investments. Work with field personnel to identify highest priority work, develop budgetary estimates, and project scopes for budget submittals. Work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure facilities meet requirements. Provide engineering review and input on conceptual designs, design reviews, calculations, and engineering and construction documents. Interface with contractors, engineering, and field personnel to facilitate resolving technical issues. Lead PG&E effort during start‑up and commissioning.Code Compliance: Support field personnel to achieve full compliance with pipeline safety codes and regulations. Review designs and provide technical guidance for code interpretation and compliance. Implement departmental code compliance initiatives requiring engineering support.Develop and utilize new and innovative engineering design and technical solutions to solve complex problems.Lead teams from multiple organizations and/or vendors for system, programmatic or complex repairs, investigations or other efforts.Expand knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline.Evaluate methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures, and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts for assigned workstreams.Present engineering research, findings, solutions and recommendations to leadership.Apply knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices in a specific discipline to resolve complex problems.Complete assignments of broad scope and complexity with few precedents or standards and integrate information from a variety of sources.Takes ownership of problems and their solutions.Job ResponsibilitiesAdvises or directs others to solve complex problems by developing and utilizing new and innovative engineering design and technical solutions across a class of assets.Subject matter expert in one discipline and performs analyses and projects across several disciplines.Studies, evaluates, and tests new or revised methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures, and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts to Gas Operations.Works on projects that have impact, application, and interaction across departments in Gas Operations and across the Company.Searches for practical breakthrough solutions to complex problems and issues.Presents engineering research, findings, solutions and recommendations to Directors and Managers across Gas Operations.Coaches, mentors, and can direct less experienced employees.Recognized as knowledgeable within area of responsibility; has expertise in a specific sub‑area(s).Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations, and educates PG&E employees and/or industry personnel.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBS Engineering or equivalent experience.Seven (7) years of relevant experience.Desired QualificationsOil or Gas Transmission experience, design, maintenance, construction and/or operations.Natural Gas Compressor Station Experience.Reciprocating & Centrifugal Compressor and Generator Experience.EIT-Engineer in Training certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.Ability to excel independently.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Solid understanding of asset functions including threats and risks for their workstream.Knowledge of applicable engineering principles, codes, regulations, policies and procedures related to the industry and PG&E.Ability to troubleshoot, evaluate and report on outcomes.CompensationPG&E is providing a salary range that the company in good faith believes might be paid for this position at the time of posting. The actual salary will be based on multiple factors, including skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
