We are looking for an Expert in Science & Technology to join the Analytical Characterization (AC) team in Basel, Switzerland, within the Novartis Technical Research and Development (TRD) Biologics Analytical Development unit. The successful applicant will be part of the mass spectrometry group working in a highly collaborative and scientific environment focusing on the characterization of novel biologics entities.

About the Role

Your responsibilities:Characterization of biopharmaceutical products, including monoclonal antibodies, multi-specifics, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and antibody-oligo conjugates (AOCs), their post-translational modifications and degradation products using state-of-the-art instrumentationOptimization of sample preparation, liquid chromatography (LC), ion mobility separation (IMS), and mass spectrometry (MS) acquisition methods for the characterization and monitoring of product quality attributesWriting of method development and robustness reportsWriting/review of MS sections in characterization reports for the structure elucidation of drug substance, characterization of reference material, degradation products and impuritiesCommunication of results at internal meetings and international conferencesPromote environmental sustainability and GreenLab initiatives in daily workMaintenance and qualification of lab equipmentLC-MS instrument troubleshooting and technical liaison with instrument vendorsDocumentation of experiments and structured data in electronic systemsMinimum Requirements: MSc in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, analytical chemistry or related fieldStrong communication skills in English; proficiency in German or French would be an assetStrong hands-on experience in liquid chromatography (HPLC and UHPLC e.g. Thermo Vanquish and Waters Acquity systems)Hands-on experience in performing MS analyses of biopharmaceutical products at intact, subunit and peptide level using e.g. reversed-phase chromatography with MS (RP-MS), cation-exchange chromatography with MS (CEX-MS) and Multi-Attribute Method (MAM)Hands-on experience in protein sample preparation and previous use of automated liquid handlerStrong theoretical knowledge of protein biochemistry and protein post-translational modificationsTheoretical knowledge and previous experience working with mass spectrometers (e.g. Orbitrap, Q-ToF mass analyzers), Data Dependent Acquisition (DDA)Experience with ion mobility separation (IMS) on a Waters cyclic IMS mass spectrometer would be an assetExperience with collision-induced dissociation (CID), Higher-energy collisional dissociation (HCD), Electron Capture Dissociation (ECD) and/or Electron Transfer Dissociation (ETD) fragmentation techniques would be an assetExperience with software solutions for intact mass deconvolution, protein identification and semi-quantification of product quality attributes (e.g. Genedata Expressionist Refiner MS)Experience with MS analysis of oligonucleotides would be an assetAbility to interpret and present scientific information critically and objectivelyProactive and curious mindset to new technologies/methodologies and environmental sustainability, strong organizational skillsBenefits & Rewards At Novartis, we're committed to reimagining medicine together - and rewarding the people who make it happen. Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role: 76,300.00 - 141,700.00 CHF The base salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
