POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a resilient, high-energy Export Control Specialist to help implement and administer the companys policies and procedures governing the export of goods, technology, and information. This person will assist the company in conducting activities in accordance with applicable export controls and sanctions requirements, including compliance obligations under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC). This position will oversee daily trade compliance operations, including Automated Export System (AES) filings, restricted party screenings, and international visitor approvals.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Product Classification & Export Compliance:

• Conduct in-depth analysis to classify goods, software, and technology under EAR and ITAR in coordination with technical experts. • Assist in the development and maintenance of classification management systems to ensure ongoing compliance with EAR and ITAR. • Prepare and submit export license applications through DECC and SNAP-R, ensuring full regulatory compliance. • Provide advice on export control-related customs obligations, import limitations, licensing requirements, carnets, or other customs clearance and international shipment concerns and requirements.

Operational Compliance Management:

• Oversee daily trade compliance functions, including the preparation of export licenses, agreements, and permits. • Conduct Automated Export System (AES) filings and verify accuracy in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) for international shipments. • Perform restricted party screenings, Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) screenings, and, as appropriate, review that U.S. export transactions were compliant with company policies and procedures. • Coordinate visitor screenings and approvals for non-U.S. personnel entering company facilities.

Documentation & Recordkeeping:

• Audit and maintain records in accordance with U.S. export control and sanctions regulations and company policies. • Ensure all export documentation and shipment activities comply with U.S. Customs requirements, proactively addressing any issues. • Maintain detailed logs of export transactions to support internal audits and regulatory inquiries.

Internal Auditing & Risk Management:

• Conduct internal audits of trade compliance programs to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks. • Monitor export controls and sanctions regulatory updates and assess their impact on company operations, advising leadership on necessary policy adjustments. • Ensure adherence to company policies regarding freight forwarders and customs brokers for export-related shipments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Partner with engineering, supply chain, and legal teams to ensure accurate product classifications and regulatory compliance in global trade activities. • Provide guidance on export compliance requirements for trade shows, exhibitions, and international business activities. • Review and approve company publications, technical papers, brochures, and presentations for export compliance considerations.

Policy & Program Administration:

• Implement and administer trade compliance policies, procedures, and programs in accordance with U.S. and international regulations. • Support the Chief Legal Officer in managing the company's export compliance program, ensuring seamless integration across business functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in international trade, business, law, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in trade compliance, particularly with ITAR and EAR regulations.
  • 5+ years of experience in export compliance or a related role, preferably within a global organization.
  • Certified Export Specialist (CES) or equivalent export compliance certification is strongly preferred.
  • Proven expertise in product classifications, Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Knowledge of the Automated Export System (AES) and Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) filing processes.
  • Hands-on experience applying for export licenses through the Defense Export Control and Compliance System (DECCS) and the Simplified Network Application Process - Redesign (SNAP-R).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Requirements:

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones
  • Physical Requirements: Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time), may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
