Job Description Summary:
Responsible for monitoring the safety, comfort, and security of assigned patients, as well as maintaining the therapeutic surroundings of the unit, performing hygienic care and assigned procedures under the supervision of a licensed nurse, based on age-specific needs. The Clinical Services Psychiatric Technician is responsible for reporting any unusual or untoward behavior of patients requiring intervention by assigned licensed personnel. Under the administrative supervision of the Executive Director of Staffing and Patient Flow and the direct supervision of the Administrative Nursing Supervisor. The employee is subject to overtime or call back as required by the hospital.
Responsibilities
- Performs direct and indirect patient care responsibilities as assigned by the licensed nurse, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with meals, assisting with hygiene, assisting the patient with toileting functions and documenting in the patient chart as indicated.
- Ensures patient safety.
- Reports any patient needs or complaints to the licensed nurse.
- Accompanies patients to testing or procedural areas and activities.
- Does not leave the patient alone unless requested by hospital staffs or the patient is going to an area where the tech is not allowed to go.
- Monitors patient status and documents status as indicated.
- Notifies licensed staff immediately of any emergent situation, calling for assistance if the patient exhibits inappropriate or unsafe behavior.
- Remains awake and alert, observing the patient at all times observing for changes and inappropriate or unsafe behavior or unauthorized activity, i.e. patients trying to leave the unit without authorization, visitors bringing in medications, etc.
- Demonstrates ability to apply wrist, ankle, and waist restraints safely to agitated patients.
- Demonstrates competency in monitoring the patient's response to restraint.
- Attends staff meetings and training.
- Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the unit.
- Performs related responsibilities and procedures as required or demonstrated.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. PRIOR
EXPERIENCE: Prefer mental health experience and/or completion of PCT or nursing assistant program or one semester of attendance at an accredited school of nursing. SPECIAL SKILLS: Will be trained and must prove competence with basic patient care skills such as vital signs and hygiene.
